Harry Potter: Quidditch Championsis giving fans of the franchise unprecedented access to the legendary sport for the first time since the GameCube’sHarry Potter: Quidditch World Cup. It features a full-blown single-player Career Mode, that sees players take part in not just the Hogwarts Quidditch Cup, but the Triwizard Tournament and the World Cup. It’s a packed entry into theHarry Pottervideo game collection, and the perfect way to get into the storied sport.
However, while there is a lot of content available at launch inHarry Potter: Quidditch Champions, including plenty ofcharacters from theHarry Potterfilms and books, it is missing a crucial opportunity.Quidditch Championshad the opportunity to do something the books, films, and games have never been able to do. Unfortunately, at least for now, it missed its chance. Fans would have been delighted had it made the most of the Wizarding World’s greatest aspect.
Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions Doesn’t Feature Enough Magical Schools
Quidditch Champions Only Showcases Three Of The Magical Schools
Harry Potter: Quidditch Championsfeatures the Triwizard Tournament as one of its three available Career Mode Cups for players to compete in. This is a legendary competition betweenthe three major European wizarding schools: Hogwarts, Beauxbatons, and Durmstrang.All of these were seen in both the fourth book and film,Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. It’s a fantastic inclusion inQuidditch Champions, as being able to take part in such an illustrious tournament is a great honor for fans.
There are 11 major wizarding schools in theHarry Potteruniverse, with potentially dozens of other unregulated institutions. However, only a handful of these schools are actually mentioned in the books, with the rest remaining a mystery.
However, while having the Triwizard Tournament is amazing,Quidditch Championsmissed a fantastic opportunity to finally show off the other wizarding schools across the world. The wizarding world is actually home to many wizarding schools, including ones in America, Japan, and Africa.Quidditch Championsdoes feature a World Cup in addition to the usualHouse Cup tournament. The World Cup takes wizards from across the world, but they don’t represent specific wizarding schools, nor does the World Cup take part in wizarding schools for obvious reasons.
Does Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions Have Microtransactions?
Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions has a keen focus on multiplayer and character customization, so it seems like a game ripe for microtransactions.
The ability to play against the lesser known Mahoutokoro, a wizarding school located on the volcanic island of South Iwo Jima, would be incredible, as would facing against the Transfiguration masters of Uagadou in Africa, or the Herbology experts at Castelobruxo in Brazil. Interestingly, Ilvermorny, the wizarding school located in North America, which is mentioned in theFantastic Beastsmovies, is included as a playable pitch, although not as a team. Outside of Natsai Onai, a transfer student from Uagadou who appears inHogwarts Legacy, players are yet to truly experience life in the other wizarding schools.
It Is Possible More Schools Could Appear In Future Updates
Quidditch Champions Could Add Other Playable Schools As Maps
Warner Bros. has announced that there will be future updates andSeasons coming toQuidditch Champions, which will add extra maps and characters. While what these maps and characters will be remains a mystery, it’s possible that they could be set in other schools. Naturally, players won’t know until further information about those maps is revealed, butit wouldn’t be surprising if at least some of the new maps were set in other magical schools pitches.
InHarry Potter: Quidditch Champions, the first two cups, the Hogwarts Quidditch Cup and Triwizard Cup can only really take place in those schools, so there can’t be extra maps for those. While there could, and will likely be, extra maps for the World Cup tournament, players would likely get bored by the same looking stadiums. So,it would make sense for the developers to add some extra schools in there to spice things up, especially as they are all set in interesting locations.
Warner Bros has not mentioned whether additional Cups will be added to the Career Mode inHarry Potter: Quidditch Champions. However, it is possible that another Cup that sees the wizarding schools play against each other could be introduced, although there isn’t any lore precedence for this. Alternatively, individual Cups per wizarding school could be added.
It could also be that a sequel toHarry Potter: Quidditch Championscould explore additional schools, expanding theHarry Potteruniverse even further. Regardless, while it’s a shame that these magical schools were omitted at launch, it’s hard to argue with just how much content is packed into the game.Harry Potter: Quidditch Championshas a lot on offer for fans of the franchise, and will hopefully expand into deeper parts of the lore in the future.
