SAS: Rogue Heroesseason 2 has six episodes once again following the first unit of the British Army Special Air Service (SAS), first deployed in the Western Desert Campaign in World War II. WhileSAS: Rogue Heroesdoes make an effort to bebattle-accurate in its depictionsof World War II, it’s not a series in the same somber tone asBand of BrothersorMasters of the Air. Instead, and one of the reasons it is so celebrated, is its freewheeling, lighthearted tone, which is even outright funny at moments. Despite all the plaudits, it still took a little over two years for season 2 to come out, dropping in January 2025. Episode 1
The SAS Land In Italy During The Allied Invasion
The season kicks off with a bit of reorientation of wheretheSAS: Rogue Heroescastended up after the previous season finale. Despite their successes in Africa, government bureaucrats are threatening to disband the SAS. To prove their worth, the team, now led by David’s older brother, Lieutenant Colonel Bill Stirling (Gwilym Lee), and called the Special Raiding Service (SRS), are deployed during the Allied invasion of Sicily.

Eve Mansour (Sofia Boutella) survived her plane crash and is back in London, while David Stirling is revealed to have been captured and is now a POW atForte Di Gaviin Italy. It’s a premiere that sets up that the SAS team has lost a step with someone new in charge, and their old leader is out of the game, for now at least.

Bill Stirling And David Mayne Come To An Understanding
In episode 2, the SRS captures Augusta from the Germans, but Lieutenant Paddy Mayne (Jack O’Connell) continues to butt heads with Bill, and worse, the SRS is having issues with the Sicilian mafia, who they’ve been instructed to work with. After a Catholic priest tricks the SRS into nearly getting bombed by the Germans,Bill relaxes his leadership style, even re-designating the team the SAS.
Eve travels toForte Di Gaviin secret and convinces David to give Bill his blessing to lead the SAS before she departs for the unit. After an episode filled with characters bumping up against one another, episode 2 sees them starting to get along. Even from a distance, David accepts that responsibility is out of his hands.
Episode 3
Episode 3 ofSAS: Rogue Heroesseason 2 opens with Adolf Hitler ordering all German forces to execute Allied commandos. While Bill and the rest of the SAS still have clashing cultural issues, they continue to succeed in their military duties. The SAS successfully captures Termoli with the help of the Italian resistance, but John Tonkin (Jack Barton) is captured, and the Germans prepare to execute him. David attempts to escape his imprisonment but is captured and placed in solitary confinement. The SAS is encountering some real trouble as they get closer to Germany.
Episode 4
The SAS Is Put On The Defensive
In the now captured Termoli, Sergeant Reg Seekings (Theo Barklem-Biggs) stays with a local Italian family, and grows close to them. However, when the Germans return to take the town, the family is killed, shaking Reg badly. Eve, who has joined up with the SAS as a war correspondent, helps in the defense andBill reminds Paddy that the Germans' order to kill commandos does not give the SAS the excuse to mistreat prisoners.

John is saved from execution at the last minute by Luftwaffe General Richard Heidrich. Heidrich admires the British and expresses his distaste for the Commando Order to kill special forces opponents. A particularly violent episode, the SAS team is coming up against fervently loyal Germans now, though there are cracks beginning to show in the German forces, mirrored by Paddy’s arguments with Bill over how to treat prisoners.
Episode 5
David Sterling Is Left Alone At Forte Di Gavi
Though the SAS has succeeded in the defense of Termoli, they’ve lost many comrades. With the majority of the fighting over, Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery (Con O’Neill) comes to congratulate the haggard soldiers. They have one more job to do in Italy, however, and are sent to destroy a German-controlled railway system. Four soldiers are captured and executed, but John manages to escape his captors and meets up with the Italian resistance, who ferry him to safety.
Things are coming to their end inSAS: Rogue Heroesand yet soldiers are still dying and even those who do survive will likely carry the burden of their deployment forever, as evidenced by David.
David realizes his Italian captors have evacuatedForte Di Gavi, but he is so affected by his extended time in solitary confinement, he nearly can’t find the strength to leave. Things are coming to their end inSAS: Rogue Heroesand yet soldiers are still dying and even those who do survive will likely carry the burden of their deployment forever, as evidenced by David.
Episode 6
Season 2 Ends On Multiple Cliffhangers
The finale ofSAS: Rogue Heroesseason 2 finds the SAS taking their leave in the United Kingdom, but they learn they have a new mission coming up: the invasion of Europe in Normandy. Bill is forced to resign from the SAS after an investigation is opened into his relationship with Eve. The episode ends with Paddy and the SAS parachuting into France during Operation Overlord. David, meanwhile, is trying to escape the German forces who have come to reoccupyForte Di Gavi. After nearly getting away, he’s again recaptured and sent to a POW camp in Colditz.
SAS: Rogue Heroesseason 2 ends on some major cliffhangerswith Bill in trouble with the brass, David no closer to escaping Italy, and the SAS heading to the hottest war zone they’ve been to so far. It’s a huge question mark of an ending to cap off another captivating entry into creator Steven Knight’s world. Hopefully, there will be more to come for the Special Air Service.

AsSAS: Rogue Heroesseason 2 just ended, there has not been any news about season 3. Season 2 was announced two months after season 1 ended, but fans will certainly hope there’s a quicker turnaround for season 3 than there was for season 2, which took over two years (viaDeadline). Considering the big cliffhangers at the end of season 2, there will likely be a third season. The continued critical success of the franchise and the popularity of World War II TV shows in general suggestsSAS: Rogue Heroesseason 2 won’t be the last episodes to air.
