Scarlett Johansson has commented on what she wished theMarvel Cinematic Universehad done differently withBlack Widow. The actress gave life to one of the most important heroes ofall MCU movies. Black Widow was a key part of the Avengers, and it was only through her sacrifice that the team could beat Thanos. After a movie that finally explored her origins in the form of 2021’sBlack Widow, the star is done playing the character. However, withJohansson now involved in Marvel Studios’Thunderbolts*, perhaps her Black Widow regrets could lead to a return as Natasha Romanoff.

Speaking withMTV UK,Scarlett Johansson said that she would have liked to explore more of Black Widow’s past and her relationship with Hawkeye.

Natasha Romanoff and Yelena Belova in a car chase in Black Widow

While the Black Widow movie managed to shed light on many aspects of Natasha Romanoff’s origin, the film did not include Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye beyond an uncredited voice cameo during Black Widow and Hawkeye’s much-talked-about Budapest mission. The movie never showed the two meeting for the first time or the start of their relationship, but with Johansson now back in the MCU, there is a small chance that afuture Marvel projectcould do it. “I probably would have gone further back in the Black Widow story. I would have loved to have seen the Hawkeye, Black Widow, some of that stuff. You see early parts of her life.”

What Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow Comments Mean

The MCU Could Use More Original Avengers

Johansson has said that she is done playing Black Widow. However, it is interesting to see that the actress still thinks there was more that could have been explored with the character. Now that Johansson is back in the MCU, even if it is in a producer role, perhaps Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige could convince her to return as Natasha Romanoff, similar to Avengers stars Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans, who also left the MCU withAvengers: Endgamebut have since returned to the franchise.

The MCU’s Original Choice For Yelena Belova Addresses Black Widow Casting Rumors

While Florence Pugh plays Yelena Belova, the star Marvel reportedly first went to for the Black Widow replacement reveals why she passed on the role.

2021’sBlack Widowoffers the perfect way to how Johansson could come back. The movie was a prequel, exploring events of Natasha’s past and the character’s adventures betweenCaptain America: Civil WarandAvengers: Infinity War, as Black Widow had already died in the MCU in 2019.Johansson’s possible return would not need to mess with Romanoff’s ending, as anew Black Widow moviefocused on Natasha meeting Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton and going on missions with Hawkeye would be a perfect fit, allowing Johansson to fix her MCU regrets and Marvel to have an original Avenger back in play.

Our Take On Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow Comments

More Hawkeye And Black Widow Will Always Be Great

The friendship between Hawkeye and Black Widow is one of the best relationships in the MCU. I was heartbroken by the touching nature of Natasha Romanoff’s sacrifice, as the two Avengers fought each other to see who would get to sacrifice their lives to save their best friend, showing how much love they had for one another. Like Johansson, I would have liked to see the beginning of Clint and Natasha’s relationship be explored in the MCU. Hopefully, even if it comes in animated form, Marvel will find a way to touch on that part ofBlack Widow’s history.
