Siloshowrunner Graham Yost underlines the importance of that Pez dispenser. The closing minutes oftheSiloseason 2 finaleintroduce a U.S. congressman Daniel (played bySuccession’s Ashley Zukerman) while he’s on a date with a journalist named Helen (Iron Fistalum Jessica Henwick). Things seem to be going well until the journalist asks the politician whether the U.S. plans to bomb Iran, perhaps pointing to how the silos were created and why. The congressman exits, leaving her with a duck Pez dispenser. It’s a reference to the University of Oregon, which Helen attended, and its Duck mascot.

What The Pez Dispenser Means For Silo

It’s A Connection To The Past

Henwick and Zuckerman will be back inSiloseason 3, having been upgraded to cast membersafter the surprise appearance in the recent finale. If it’s the case that the journalist Helen holds onto the dispenser given to her by the United States congressman, and it seems like she does, the question becomes how it makes its way from one hand to another before reaching Juliette. It was inSiloseason 1 that Juliette’s friend,George Wilkins(played by Ferdinand Kingsley), gave it to her.

What Silo’s Pez Dispenser Means

Silo season 2’s ending flashback hints at how the duck Pez candy dispenser will eventually hold immense significance in the show’s overarching story.

The obvious connection to make is that one of themainSilocharactersis somehowlinked to the people that helped start this mess,as represented by the journalist and the congressman. Given that both characters will be back, the possibility is bound to be addressed, including why the Pez dispenser is a banned relic. At the same time, the adaptation of the Hugh Howey novels may be aiming for a more emotional explanation.

Our Take On Silo’s Important Relic

Objects Live On

If nothing more specific is said about the toy duck, it could just be that the Pez dispenser is a stand-in for how certain things can live on even after the world has been destroyed. It could be anunlikely symbol of rebuilding and starting over. Relics and objects have had an outsized importance in the high-stakes world ofSilo. It could be because they tell stories, encapsulate lives, and give people the dangerous element of hope. That’s its own kind of dangerous when there are truths to hide.
