As seen inSiloseason 1, Juliette is initially a resident of one of the lower levels of the central underground bunker. However, as fate would have it, she gets the opportunity to become Silo 18’s new Sheriff afterHolston’s shocking death in Silo season 1’s early episodes. Although Juliette is initially apprehensive about taking up the position, she agrees after seeing it as an opportunity to find the truth aboutGeorge Wilkins' murder.

With what follows, Juliette’s search for answers makes her a threat to those who are deadset on gatekeeping Silo 18’s history and secrets. She breaks many laws and defies many rules before unfolding the secrets surrounding how she and other citizens were being lied to. InSiloseason 1’s endingmoments, she is punished and sent out to clean by Bernard. However, this backfires when she survives and ventures further into the wasteland to uncover more secrets.Siloseason 1 ends the first arc in her journey but paves the way for the beginning of a new one as well.

Meeting Solo Marks The Inception Of A New Arc For Juliette

In the second half ofHugh Howey’s firstSilobook,Wool, Juliette ventures further away from Silo-18 after being sent out to clean. Realizing that the heat tape on her suit would not be able to protect her for long, Juliette makes her way to another neighboring Silo. This is when she encounters Solo,the last survivor of an uprising that killed all the other residents. After sharing everything he knows about the world they live in, Solo helps her establish communication with Silo 18. With this, Juliette gets in touch with Lukas, who tells her everything about the aftermath of her departure from Silo 18.

While working as Bernard’s shadow, Lukas also exposes the IT’s secrets to Juliette, but Bernard soon learns about his betrayal. Therefore, he sends him out to clean. Realizing that Bernard’s actions are not justified, Sheriff Peter Billings steps forward and puts Bernard in the Silo’s airlock. Through a radio, Bernard tries to justify his actions to Juliette by saying that every time a rebellion is successful in a Silo, it gets taken down by the authorities in Silo 1, who exterminate all citizens by releasing poisonous gas.

The second book in Hugh Howey’sSiloseries, titledShift, unfolds more as a spinoff/prequel that walks through the origins of the silos and reveals what happened to the outside world. It introduces a character named Donald Keene, recruited by Senator Paul Thurman in 2049 as one of the leading figures behind World Order Operation Fifty (W.O.O.L.). Thurman initially told Keene thatOperation Fifty aimed to preserve humanity from events that could lead to the species' extinction. However, the truth behind Thurman’s dark plan comes to light much later, prompting Keene to help Juliette and other survivors.

Juliette Takes It Upon Herself To Save Her People Before It Is Too Late

Donald Keene learns that Thurman and Erskine instigated the nuclear disasters that made the outside world uninhabitable. According to Erskine, terrorists and hostile nations were taking control over self-replicating nanobots, which were designed solely to advance medical science in a positive direction. Owing to their increasing threat,Operation Fifty was introduced as a resetting eventthat would wipe off all humans before the nanobots would. Donald also learns that the citizens of only one Silo will be let out into the real world while the others will be terminated.

Juliette only briefly appears in the second book but becomes the main character again in the third one, titledDust. In the final book, Donald shares everything he knows with Juliette and Lukas before his health starts declining. Realizing how the rebellion in Silo 18 puts the citizens in danger, Juliette plans an escape for her people through a tunnel that connects Silo 18 to Silo 17. However, before she can successfully pull off the evacuation, Thurman takes control of Silo 1 and orders Silo 18’s termination. As a result, Juliette is only able to save close to 200 citizens of Silo 18.

While Donald sets out to destroy Silo 1 to end Thurman’s tyranny, Juliette learns that all the silos' lowest levels have a tunneling machine that can take them to a safe place called “Seed.” However, they are unable to use the machine in Silo 17 because it requires a lot more fuel than they possess. Therefore, Juliette takes it upon herself to walk her people to “Seed.” To everyone’s surprise, after they cover some distance on the surface, theyemerge out of a patch of dust and discover that the outside world is not uninhabitable anymore.
