Star Wars’next live-action show seems to be bringing back a classic Imperial vehicle that’s one of the coolest Easter eggs from 1979. There’s currently a lot of excitement about Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor piloting aTIE AvengerinAndorseason 2, an impressive TIE variant from Legends now brought back to the official canon. However, I’m just as excited about the other Imperial transport which Cassian blows up in the trailers forAndor’ssecond and final season.
Premiering in April,Andorseason 2 will consist of 12 episodes with four three-episode arcs, each arc taking place in a year leading up to the events of 2016’sRogue One: A Star Wars Story. As such, the series will heavily focus on the growing pockets of resistance and defiance of the Galactic Empire which eventually coalesces into the greater Rebel Alliance. That being said,I’m still surprised to see what looks to be the return of the K79-S80 Imperial Troop Transport inAndorseason 2’s trailers, a classicStar Warsvehicle and Easter egg with a pretty cool history.

The Kenner Imperial Troop Transport Is Back In Andor Season 2’s Trailer
Marking A Brand-New Live-Action Appearance After The Mandalorian
Rather than debuting in the movies like the vast majority ofStar Warsships and vehicles, the Imperial Troop Transport made its first appearance as a toy, a new creation for the Kenner toyline in 1979. Likewise, it was the firstStar Warstoy to be released that did not first appear in a film. However, it eventually made its on-screen debut thanks to Lucasfilm’s Dave Filoni with the animated seriesStar Wars Rebelsas the K79-S80 Imperial Troop Transport (“K79” being a reference to Kenner and the year the toy was released).

Star Wars has dove into live-action TV in the last 5 years with much success, but some seasons have been better than others. Here’s how they rank.
Furthermore, Filoni brought the ITT back inThe Mandalorianseason 1 with its first ever live-action debut, as well as a rarer, more combat-ready variant inThe Mandalorianseason 2, known as the Trexler 906 Armored Marauder. Now, it looks as though the Imperial vehicle Easter egg is surprisingly continuing inAndorseason 2 with one of the transports being attacked by Cassianonwhat’s likely the early Rebel world of Dantooine. However, it’s currently hard to make out from the trailers alone if this is the classic ITT that’s returned or the Marauder.

Andor Season 2 Has A Lot More Easter Eggs Than Season 1
Setting Up Rogue One And The Original Trilogy
What makes the ITT’s live-action return inAndorseason 2 so surprising is the simple fact that the first season features very few Easter eggs or cameos. As a whole,Andoris a show that takes itself as seriously as possible, and it’s been confirmed by showrunner Tony Gilroy that nothing has been included unless it ultimately servesAndor’sstory. As such, it does make sense that Imperial Troop Transports would be present, given their frequent use by the Empire during this period of theStar Warstimeline (even if they weren’t ever seen in the movies).
The 10 Greatest Moments From Star Wars' Best TV Show To Get You Ready For Season 2
Andor season 1 is one of Star Wars’ best shows, and with season 2 on the horizon it’s worth a look back at the best season 1 moments…
Additionally, one should expect at least a few more references and elements pointing to the greaterStar Warsgalaxy compared to the first season, if only for the simple fact thatAndorseason 2 is set to cover a much wider region of the timeline. After all, it’s a four-year period that’s pivotal to setting up the events of bothRogue Oneand the original trilogy. All things considered, it’s very cool to see the ITT’s return considering its history in theStar Warsfranchise.
