Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew episode 7.Star Wars: Skeleton Crewepisode 7 features a delightfully subtle reference toThe Old Republic, hinting at the galaxy’s ancient history of pirate activity.Skeleton Crewhas not been shy about its connection to the broad history of theStar Warsgalaxy, both in and out-of-universe. Much of this has been, surprisingly, in reference to the Old Republic era – long before the time of the prequel trilogy.

Skeleton Crewhas explored many planets, but the most notable is the new worldAt Attin, recently revealed to be the last surviving Old Republic mint – the source of its currency. This is a type of world building that hasn’t been seen inStar Warscanon nearly as much as it was in the oldExpanded Universe, as canon hasn’t ventured that far back yet. Surprisingly, though, there’s another Old Republic Easter egg hiding inSkeleton Crewepisode 7 too…

Jod Na Nawood (Jude Law) holds the hilt of a lightsaber in Skeleton Crew. He’s edited over the 501st marching on the Jedi Temple in Revenge of the Sith.

The “Ravagers” Are A Fantastic Old Republic Reference

Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO

Skeleton Crewepisode 7 finally featured Jod and his former pirate crew arriving at At Attin, attempting to bypass the planet’s mysterious barrier. Jod sends a Quarren pirate snub fighter into the cloudy abyss, with the starfighter’s call sign being “Ravager One”. This itself is a great reference to theStar WarsMMOThe Old Republic.InThe Old Republic, there is a historic and expansive pirate gang known as just that: the Ravagers.

Is Jod Na Nawood Running The Modern Ravagers?

An Ancient Pirate Gang

Ravager One seems to imply that the entire fleet could be known as “Ravagers”, which would make sense along the lines ofStar Wars' starfighter call signs referring to their squadrons. And because of this, the Ravagers could be the real name of Jod’s so-far-unnamed pirate crew. This would be a wonderful reference, considering the Ravagers were already a long-lasting organization before their appearance inThe Old Republic.

I Think I’ve Figured Out Who Skeleton Crew’s “Supervisor” Really Is (& If I’m Right, They Have A Secret Order 66 Connection)

I think I have an idea of who the Supervisor in Skeleton Crew might be, and if I’m right, then the show will be making a major Order 66 connection.

InThe Old Republic, the Ravagers flourished 3,600 years before the Skywalker Saga. They were based on the planet Rishi, led by a pirate named Ruugar who had taken control of them after leading a mutiny.Skeleton Crewhas explored these themes in great deal - the pirate code has played a huge role, and there have been constant mutinies - so this is a great reference.

Of course, there may not be a straight line of continuity between the Ravagers and Jod Na Nawood’s pirates inStar Wars: Skeleton Crew. Jod likes changing his name, and he could have done the same with his pirates, deciding to honor an old name and inspire fear in his victims. One thing’s for sure; this is a fantastic deep cut inStar Warslore, and more connections to the Old Republic are always welcome.
