This Is The Third Reported New Trilogy
Prior to the financially successful but widely panned release ofThe Rise of Skywalker,Lucasfilm had big plans.In 2017, Lucasfilm announced a trilogy led by none other than Rian Johnson, who directed the equally divisive second installment of the sequel trilogy,Star Wars: The Last Jedi.While Johnson’s trilogy was never outright canceled, it hasn’t gone anywhere, either. Famously, of course, theGame of Thronesfinal season and its finale were strongly criticized, and their star power started to decline. After the pair announced a major deal with Netflix, their arrangement with Lucasfilm was officially called off in October 2019. It’s impossible to say whether this was solely because of their handling ofGame of Thrones, but it’s certainly plausible.
Now,it’s recently been revealed that Simon Kinberg, who co-createdStar Wars Rebelsand worked on major franchises like Fox’sX-Men, will be developing a newStar Warstrilogy. Thedetails about the Kinberg trilogy are meager and even conflicting– some reports say that this trilogy is meant to be Episodes 10-12, while others say that it will present something entirely new – but still. IfSimon Kinberg’s moviesare officially announcedatStar WarsCelebration 2025, which will take place in Japan in April, then there’s a real chance Lucasfilm is serious about developing this idea. There’s just one snag.
