Starfield’s new 1.14.68 update has finally fixed its most annoying modding problem.Starfieldhas had its fair share of trouble since launch, which was unfortunate after the excitement around the sci-fi RPG. However, it has been able to rebound since with numerous technical and quality of life fixes.

Ahead of theShattered SpaceDLCon September 30, mods have become a huge part of the longevity of the game, as is the case with many Bethesda titles. Beloved entries likeSkyrimandFallout 4are still played a decade plus after their releases due to mods. Some can be as simple as graphical upgrades, while others add entire new storylines for players to enjoy. The argument could be made a part of the positivity of many Bethesda games comes from the community’s ability to create these experiences.

The New Starfield Update Fixes Mod Index Issue

Nearly Unlimited Options For Mods

The largest issue with modding inStarfieldwas the small index size, which limited how many mods could be used at once. There were two main issues with this, one being the small size, which only allowed around 255 mods if one was lucky. However, the other was reportedly a bug that made mods take up more space than needed. So, in actuality, most players were only able to get a little over 100 mods to fit at any time.

This type of issue is a killer in any game like this where mods add so much replayability, but even more so inStarfield, which needed extra help from the community. Many mods were crucial to help overcome graphical issues or aid in quality-of-life features that were not or never will be in the game. This limited index size and bug forced players to pick and choose which mods were more important, and the bigger a mod was, the more space it took up.

Luckily, not only has this new patch, which is currently only in beta for Steam users, fixed this bug, but has also increased the index size to 4500. This should allow for thousands of options, including essentialStarfieldmods, to be used at once. Though Xbox users will have to wait a bit longer to experience this, it is still a welcome sign of the future of the title. Though on paper it is a small change, it will likely have a huge impact on the games' longevity and overall enjoyment factor.

What Starfield’s New Mod Index Limit Means For The Future

A Shining Modded Light Of Hope For The RPG

The new index size holds much greater importance than just allowing more mods to be used.Since players will no longer be limited by size, it means larger mods can also be created. Though some mods were abandoned due to lack of interest in the game, the size constraints could also have been a deterring factor. However, without worrying about if the mod can fit,Starfieldcould one day see a mod thesize ofFallout London.

Selecting the perfect dream home in Starfield might take some consideration. Here are all the home locations available in the game, ranked.

The other major impact is the way mods can now be blended together. Even though most mods are not made for each other, sometimes they just blend in perfectly. Now that they are given the room to fit together, players can experience exploring new locations while riding on custom vehicles and dispatching enemies with creative new gear. The potential is now nearly limitless for what can be accomplished with this many mods utilized at once.

Preparing For Shattered Space DLC

Though for many the index change will be the most notable update, this new patch did fix other issues. Many of these arefixing technical issues and bugs in quests, locations, menus and ship building, which is never a bad thing.

The increased mod index size finally putsStarfield’s largest modding issue to rest.

Another large chunk ofStarfield’s 1.14.68 update was fixing issues with the Rev-8 planet rover added last month. This is also a significant thing due to the huge quality-of-life improvement it was, especially since it removed the need for modded vehicles, thoughcool mods to use for the Rev-8do exist.

Overall, this patch reads like one long bug fix, but it may end up being one of the most influential in the history ofStarfield. Though the game does have content updates like DLC and free updates planned, the lack of mod flexibility would’ve been a killer once that ran out. Thus, the increased mod index size finally putsStarfield’s largest modding issue to rest.
