Mike Ross went through a lot inSuits, but there is still one major question about his Harvard fraud that still bothers me to this day. WhileSuitsevolved into a very complex show full of strong characters, the USA Network legal drama started as a somewhat simple procedural in which Mike Ross was the traditional protagonist with a gimmick. Like Adrian Monk’s incredible detective skills or Shawn’s alleged psych abilities,Mike had a fantastic photographic memory that helped him impress Harvey Specter despite not having a law degree.

Mike and Harvey made a dangerous deal in the firstepisode ofSuits. Whereas Mike needed an opportunity to step up in life and make up for the mistakes he had made, Harvey was looking for someone as courageous and eager to win as he was. From then on, both ofSuits' lead charactershad to lie to everyone else about them to cover Mike Ross’ Harvard fraud. However,I’m still not sure about who else knew Mike’s secret before it got out.

Rachel and Mike’s grandmother in Suits

Did Mike Ross’ Grandmother Know About His Secret In Suits?

Edith Ross Knew Mike Wasn’t Really A Lawyer, Right?

Having watchedall nine seasons ofSuits, I’m still not confident to say whether Mike’s grandmother knew that he was committing fraud to get a job at a major law firm. On the one hand, Mike’s grandmother knew that he had been kicked out of college and never got a degree. In other words, she should know that Mike Ross could not possibly be working as a lawyer, let alone in one of the biggest firms in the city. On the other hand,Mike’s grandma never called him out or even made any comments regarding his job at Pearson Hardman.

Edith Ross loved and cared about Mike, having raised him like a son after the death of his parents in a car accident. Mike’s grandmother was always worried about him and told him many times that he should put his life in order and stop hanging around dangerous people. And yet, every time Mike’s job would come up, Edith never questioned anything. She even visited Mike at the firm and met all of his coworkers, including Rachel and Harvey.

Why Suits’ Mike’s Grandmother Plot Hole Bothers Me So Much

Suits Could Have Easily Shown How Much Mike’s Grandma Knew

The problem with the plot hole of whether Mike’s grandmother knew about his secret is that it could have been easily avoided. It would only have taken one conversation between the two characters forSuitsto establish how much Edith Ross knew about what Mike was doing, and more importantly, whether she agreed. Even a scene where Mike’s grandma only alluded to knowing his secret would have worked.Edith was the only family Mike had left, so it is strange that the show never settled this mystery.

Suits L.A.: Release Date, Cast, Story, Trailer & Everything We Know About The Suits Spinoff

With Suits finding new life on streaming, a spinoff, Suits L.A. has been announced which will continue the popular legal drama on the West Coast.

Mike Ross' grandmother dies inSuitsseason 2, episode 9, after which we never learn how much she knew. I like to think Mike’s grandma did know about his secret – she knew him too well not too – but preferred to never confront him with the truth because she believed he was trying to do the right thing. Still, I wishSuitshad given a clear answer about this, even if with a throwaway line by Mike after his grandmother died.
