Summary
Even the most die-hard fans ofThe Boys’TV show might be surprised at the fates of characters in the comics, and this is especially true of Hughie’s father. While it features the same characters, they’re often remixed or put in brand-new scenarios.

Unable to stand the thought of losing his father, Hughie considers injecting him with Compound V, which his mother eventually goes through with. While this makes Hugh wake up, he also goes on a brutal rampage through the hospital.

Eventually, Hughie is able to calm his father down, bringing him out of the rampage that Compound V set him on. This leads to Hughie peacefully killing his father, holding his hand as he drifts off, surrounded by people who love him. It’s a heartbreaking scene andfardifferent from what happens in the comics. In the comics, Hugh’s father is named Alexander and is only seen a few times, almost always offering Hughie support when he needs it. Instead of going on a rampage through a hospital, Alexander is mostly able to live out his days in Scotland with his wife, while checking in on his son now and then. InDear Becky, Butcher claims that he murdered Alexander, cutting his head off and leaving it on his boat.Butcher does this to goad Hughie into killing him, which ultimately works. Only after Hughie kills Butcher does he think to call his parents, where he discovers that they’re both completely alive and well.
Instead of going on a murderous rampage and being given a heartbreaking goodbye, he simply dies one year after his wife, peacefully in his home.

Alexanderdoeseventually die in the comics, but it happens peacefully and off-panel. Instead of going on a murderous rampage and being given a heartbreaking goodbye, he simply dies one year after his wife, peacefully in his home. This happens sometime between the ending ofThe BoysandDear Becky, which takes place 12 years later. Both Hughie and Annie return to Scotland to deal with Hughie’s inheritance, and ultimately they decide to stay and get married.
Amazon’s adaptation ofThe Boyshas changed a lot from the comics. Some have been for the better, some not, but the change to Hughie’s father is certainly more emotionally impactful. In the comics,Hughie’s father serves his purpose; he’s there to support Hughie, and he ends up peacefully dying off-panel because he isn’t directly involved in the events of the comic. The TV show saw a way to expand on this and decided to give him a much more emotional death. This is just one of the many character changesThe Boysshow has made which was ultimately for the better.
