Diablo 4is getting in on the holiday action with a special Halloween event, including some limited-time free cosmetics for the Wanderer to snatch up from the in-game store. The game seems a perfect fit for a spooky season celebration, with its emphasis on all things macabre, begging the question of why this season isn’t even bigger for the dungeon crawler. However, with the recent release of theVessel of Hatredexpansion and Season of Hatred Rising in the game, there is already a lot going on in Sanctuary.
The Butcher headlines the festivities which were announced earlier today on the officialDiablo 4account on X (formerly known as Twitter). It will run from October 29 to July 04, 2025, with free daily cosmetics available in the in-game store between October 29 and November 1. While players must havethe base game ofDiablo 4in order to participate in the event, theydo not need to have purchased theVessel of Hatredexpansion.

A sinister game of chanceis included with the Meat or Treat game, which currently leaves much to the imagination until players can see for themselves what these surprises will entail.
Get Free Cosmetics And Play A Game Of Meat Or Treat In Diablo 4
Limited Time Event From October 29 To July 16, 2025
In Tejal’s cosmetics shop inDiablo 4,one complimentary spider-themed cosmetic item will be available, for free, from October 29 through November 1. To obtain, a person must open up the in-game shop and “purchase” each item at no cost to have it claimed on their account. If a player misses one of these daily cosmetics, Blizzard states that they will still have a chance to grab the freebie retroactively until the event ends on November 5.
November 1
Reclusive Trappings Mount Armor
The unique “Meat or Treat!” event has not been explained very thoroughly yet.Diablo 4says that during the week-long event, players can visit any Shrine in a Dungeon and it can provide a surprise effect alongside its usual effect.
Meat or Treat, feel Hell’s heat, give me something bloody to eat! - The Butcher

This makes clicking on a Shrine even more of a gamble, as the holiday effect could be good or bad. Given The Butcher’s prominince in the marketing of Meat or Treat, it seems likely that one of the unfortunate effects could include a surprise appearance of this deadly boss. Hopefully, defeating him could give some good rewards, however.
Our Take: Diablo Is The Perfect Game For A Halloween Event
Although It Would Be Fun To See It Bigger
By its name alone, theDiablofranchise is a perfect fit for the Halloween season with all of its spooky festivities and horror-focused entertainment. The bloody nature ofDiablo 4’s story with demons, monsters, and the Lord of Hatred, gives so much fodder for developers to make a major event for Halloweenthat it is a bit surprising such a small celebration is happening. That said, given thatDiablo 4has had a very busy couple of months with itsVessel of Hatredexpansion and Season 6, it also makes sense that developers may not want to overdo things at the moment.
Perhaps larger events will happen on future Halloweens. Even if not, though, “Meat or Treat!” and its free cosmetics at least give a bit of a fun and unexpected variety to the game for players who may be getting bored with grinding Paragon levels and want to mix things up. It won’t last long, however, as theDiablo 4event will only run until June 27, 2025.
