Summary
Warning: Contains spoilers forFantastic Four #23!!
TheFantastic Four’sMr. Fantastic is one of the most brilliant minds in the Marvel Universe, but his vast intelligence doesn’t mean he always takes time to break down his ideas into easily digestible concepts. Few people can follow everything he says, prompting the Human Torch to take it upon himself to explain Reed’s explanations and secure his own spot as a “science guy.”
InFantastic Four#23, mysterious particles begin bombarding the planet, and even Invisible Woman’s incredible forcefields can’t hold them back. They’re tiny, fast, and seemingly unstoppable, but Reed Richards immediately gets an idea about their origin. He launches his investigation, using the Reducta-Craft to shrink and test his theory.

As Reed explains this to the team, Johnny cuts in for readers and gives his simplified version, including the origin of the “OMG Particle” and why they need a closer look. “Johnny’s Science Corner” is a clear look atHuman Torch’s intelligence, even if he takes none of it seriously.
I Can’t Believe How Dark Marvel Just Made One of Fantastic Four’s First Ever Contributions to Its Shared Universe
A classic Fantastic Four location is reimagined as a gamma-irradiated wasteland that bears more than a striking resemblance to a real-life injustice.

Though the Human Torch branded himself as the humorous “hothead” of the group, he’s markedly intelligent, too.
Mister Fantastic and theInvisible Woman are both brilliant scientistsand typically the brains behind the Fantastic Four. When Reed comes across something he doesn’t understand, breaking it down into its logical components becomes his immediate priority. On the surface, Johnny Storm appears to be leagues behind them. While he’s certainly talented and is gifted with mechanics, he’s never purposefully pursued science.Yet launching into “Johnny’s Science Corner” to paraphrase Reed means he’s plenty intelligent enough to follow what’s being said and distill it into something more palatable, even if he does it to poke fun at his brother-in-law.

Unlike the rest of the Fantastic Four, Johnny was merely a teenager when they gained their abilities. He’s essentially spent his entire adult life immersed in exploration, strange encounters, and heroics. Though the Human Torch branded himself as the humorous “hothead” of the group, he’s markedly intelligent, too. After all, he’s spent his life learning from some of themost intelligent people in the Marvel Universe. He’s picked up plenty along the way, even if he feigns boredom in the process. The sarcastic “Johnny’s Science Corner” is simply a glimpse into that.
Johnny Storm doesn’t operate like Reed, but his way of thinking has advantages. He knows how to cut out extraneous information and use the pieces that matter, which is a skill on its own.
