TheGuardians of the Galaxytrilogy ended with a beautiful Star-Lord moment, and now that I have rewatched the second movie in the franchise, I believe that scene has become even better. TheMarvel Cinematic Universehas hadhuge success by mixing major players with lesser-known names. TheMCU’s Guardians of the Galaxy moviesare huge proof of that.

Under James Gunn, Marvel Studios was able to take one of its most obscure teams from the comics and make the cosmic characters popular names worldwide. However,Gunn left the MCU to oversee the new DC Universe, withGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’s endingmarking both the end of the road for the director and the team’s original iteration.

Yondu sacrificing himself in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Sure, Marvel could bring back the cosmic team under its new formation, with Rocket Raccoon leading thenew Guardians of the Galaxy, as was set up by the trilogy finale. However, it will never be like it was, as most of the original team went their separate ways.Star-Lord’s fate was incredibly emotional, and a franchise rewatch makes it more so.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 Makes Yondu’s Death One Of The Saddest In The MCU

As has come to be expected from superhero adaptations, many characters have died in the MCU. That rings true for the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, with the heroes even losing a couple of members of their own — Pratt’s Star-Lord nearly died multiple times as well. A rewatch ofGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2leads to one such moment.

The second MCU Guardians of the Galaxy movie is very important for Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord. It is in that film thatPeter Quill comes face-to-face with his biological father, Kurt Russell’s Ego, and learns that his mother died tragically because of him. The second Guardians of the Galaxy movie was also responsible for showing just how much Yondu mattered.

Michael Rooker’s character was the fun leader of the Ravagers. We knew from the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie that he had been important to Star-Lord’s upbringing. However, it is in the second one, with his emotional sacrifice and classic line —“He may have been your father, boy… but he wasn’t your daddy”— that we see the deep love between them.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 Disbanded The MCU Team

AfterGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2was a deep personal journey for Star-Lord, the third entry in the franchise did the same thing for Bradley Cooper’s Rocket Raccoon. The character’s backstory is undoubtedly one of the darkest in the MCU, and seeing it all displayed onscreen was heart-wrenching. That emotional tone was all over the team’s trilogy finale.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3is the perfect final adventure for the cosmic team. It is in this movie that the characters fully feel like a family, with even Karen Gillan’s Nebula a major part of that dynamic. Throughout the franchise, we saw howthe characters leaned on one another for emotional support, as a found family should.

Now, only Rocket and Groot will stay as members of the Guardians of the Galaxy, with the former leading the new version of the team. As for the rest, Drax and Nebula have retired to run Knowhere and take care of the kids liberated from the High Evolutionary. Mantis and Gamora ventured out after new adventures, andStar-Lord made a major decision.

Star-Lord Going To See His Grandfather Hits Harder After Rewatching Yondu’s Death

While I saw the Guardians of the Galaxy members going on their separate paths as necessary for their individual journeys, it was still heartbreaking to have one of the MCU’s best teams disbanded. More than that, the Guardians became a family, and for characters like Star-Lord, who had long suffered without one,the end of the team was a huge deal.

After losing his mother, Peter was almost immediately taken by Yondu. Instead of being handed over to Ego, Quill stayed with the Ravagers and was looked after by Yondu, who knew about Ego’s killing of his children and overall evil nature. After rewatchingGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,the father-son-like bond between Yondu and Star-Lord is quite strong.

Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill aka Star-Lord makes a funny expression in the MCU’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3

Now, Star-Lord’s final scene inGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3looks even more emotional. After losing Yondu and with his Guardians of the Galaxy family disbanding,Quill seeks that father figure in his grandfather, Jason Quill. Chris Pratt’s character can now finally have another positive father figure in his life, and the fact that he even gets here is due to Yondu.

How Star-Lord’s MCU Future Can Work After The Guardians Of The Galaxy Trilogy Finale

As the screen turned to black onGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,“The Legendary Star-Lord Will Return"appeared, confirming that Pratt would be back. With Star-Lord not part of Rocket Raccoon’s new Guardians of the Galaxy team, his MCU future should look very different from what has come before.

Now that Quill is back with his grandfather, I don’t think he will be leaving anytime soon. As such,Star-Lord could now become a superhero on Earthafter spending most of his life in space. With two Avengers movies coming up, Chris Pratt could be a secret addition to their cast, with Star-Lord joining the Avengers after theGuardians of the Galaxytrilogy finale.
