After watchingYour Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’s trailer, I am concerned about the quality of theMarvel Cinematic Universe’s new Spider-Man. As my favorite Marvel hero, I look forward to every new Spider-Man release.Tom Holland’sSpider-Man 4will be the next major release for the hero in the MCU, with the actor also likely to play a major role as his version of Peter Parker inAvengers: DoomsdayandAvengers: Secret Wars. However, Marvel Studios will do more with Spider-Man beforeHolland appears twice as the character in 2026.

Releasing on January 29,Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Manis Marvel Studios' next releasefor Peter Parker. The project is not part of the MCU canon, existing in its multiverse. Due to that,Tom Holland will not return to voice Spider-Man in the animated series. In his place will be Hudson Thames, who I thought previously did a good job as Peter Parker in Marvel’sWhat If…?While I think there are some exciting elements in theupcoming Marvel project, after having watchedYour Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’s new trailer, I can’t let go of a major worrying aspect.

I Am Not A Fan Of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’s Animation Style

When I saw the first concept art forYour Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, I was excited. It was clear that Marvel Studios' goal with the show’s visuals was to go back to the classic period of the character’s creation. I can seethe Steve Ditko influence in the upcoming animated series, which I love. I was also a fan of the idea of makingYour Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Mana living comic book. However, now that I have watched the first full trailer for the animated series, I have to say that I do not like how it looks in motion at all.

The trailer for the Spider-Man animated series makes the whole thing look uncanny in motion. The 3D cel-shaded animation also makes movement feel sluggish. This is very apparent in swinging scenes, which I thought looked incredibly slow. While I was a fan of the idea of going for a classic comic book design forYour Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, I just don’t think Marvel managed to make that look good in this trailer. Since this isMarvel Studios' first Spider-Man series, I was expecting more from it, and my excitement for the show took a hit.

I Am Worried That An Exciting Spider-Man Story Could Be Hindered By Its Animation

I Like The Announced Characters And Themes For The Spider-Man Series

The animation style presenting issues is disappointing, as I am really into many of the elements revealed for the series. AsYour Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Manis not set in the MCU, the team behind the series had more freedom to use classic Spider-Man comic book characters and do things differently from how Tom Holland’s Peter Parker story had developed. For instance,Colman Domingo’s Norman Osborn will be Spider-Man’s mentorin the animated series, occupying the role that Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man played in the MCU, even though Tony Stark will be in the series.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 1 will consist of 10 episodes and the series has been renewed for season 2 before release.

Since Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is headed in a more mature direction after graduating from high school and suffering great loss inSpider-Man: No Way Home, a classic and fun high school Spider-Man series is a great choice.Doctor Strange will be indirectly responsible for Peter becoming Spider-Manthis time around, withMCU stars Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio returning to voice Daredevil and KingpininYour Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. Since I have long wanted the MCU duo to appear opposite Holland inSpider-Man 4, that is very exciting. I hope the divisive animation style does not hinder a great story.

Marvel’s Latest Animated Series Has Made Me Even More Worried

I Fear A Negative Marvel Streak Could Form

While I thought Marvel’sWhat If…?season 2 was among the best offerings from Marvel Studios, season 3 was a letdown. Save for a couple of episodes, I was largely unimpressed by the final season of the MCU’s biggest animated series. WhileYour Friendly Neighborhood Spider-ManandWhat If…?have different creatives leading the projects, Marvel Studios' latest animated series turning in a disappointing season does negatively impact my hopes for the upcoming show. What If…?season 3’s lackluster status, coupled withYour Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’s sluggish animation style, make me less hopeful for a good first season.

What If…?’s animation style was also never something to write home about. However, it did work great for action scenes and movement in general. Sadly, I did not see anything of the sort in theYour Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Mantrailer. While I still have faith in the project’s story, the trailer and Marvel’s most recent animated misfire have dampened my enthusiasm for the project. With ten episodes in its first season, there is plenty of time for the series to win me over, and I hope the animation grows on me asYour Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Mangoes by.
