Andorshowrunner Tony Gilroy may be done withStar Wars, but he knows how important the show is. There’s always been a political dimension toStar Wars;George Lucas was inspired by the Vietnam War, after all. ButAndorshowrunner Tony Gilroy has openly acknowledged that the timing of this release seems opportune.

Speaking toThe Playlist, Gilroy described this as the most important thing he’s ever made. “I don’t think I’ll ever have a chance to work on anything as important as this,” he confirmed. “This has been the most important thing I’ll ever get to do in terms of how much imagination went into it, how much work went into it, how much of a better writer I became doing it, how much I learned doing it, and how important the subject matter was and the scale of it. It’s hard to imagine that a situation like this would ever come around again.”

It’s easy to understand why Gilroy considers this so important; he’s getting to tell a timeless story of rebellion, and he’s doing it in George Lucas' sandbox. “How many people have had a chance to write about it on this scale?” Gilroy continued. “And then how many people had a chance to write about it on this scale and get to dramatize it and make it real? It’s never happened before with the most popular IP in the world. I mean, what a trip!”

Tony Gilroy Is Telling An Epic Star Wars Tale

Andorseason 2may not feature Jedi, but it feels like an essential part of theStar Warsstory. It’s set to explore the five years beforeA New Hope, with thekey characters inAndorplaying a crucial role in establishing the Rebel Alliance. Even more excitingly, Lucasfilm is releasing three episodes a week for four weeks from April 22,essentially putting out a newStar Warsmovie every week. This should be an unforgettable experience for the fandom.

Lucas tapped into timeless themes when he createdStar Wars, and Gilroy has the privilege of fleshing this out. His goal is clearly to shine a light on the dreadful cycle of autocracy and rebellion; althoughAndorseason 2 wrapped production over a year ago, it feels incredibly timely. The release will no doubt be striking.

Our Take On Andor Season 2

Lucasfilm has built up a fascinating new story around the events ofA New Hope.Rogue One: A Star Wars Storywas undeniably the bestStar Warsmovie Disney has released (so far), andAndorseasons 1 and 2 are essentially a prequel to this. When everything is done, we look set to have a tremendous transmedia arc - one with deep characters, ongoing themes, and the shadow of the Death Star looming over the galaxy.
