Summary
Halle Berry and Mike Colter explainThe Union’s ending and what happened to Nick Faraday. The movie follows New Jersey-based construction worker Mike McKenna (Mark Wahlberg), who is unexpectedly approached by his former girlfriend and Union agent Roxanne Hall (Berry) to take on a dangerous job. COLTER:He sort of made his bed. He’s a lion and had a moment where he could have decided to do something else, but he decided had this opportunity to further his own agenda. At the end of the film, the only thing standing between him and this beautiful life he thought he was going to share with Roxanne is Roxanne. He’s just looking at it like, ‘Am I going to spend the rest of my life in a 10x6 cell or am I going to make a run for it? Are you going to stop me?’
BERRY:When we dropped him in the river? That was fun. I was over him by that point. Mike was a wonderful actor, and we had fun, but in the movie, shooting Nick was easy work. Easy work.
What Led To Nick’s Death In The Union?
In the opening sequence, Nick and other Union agents are endangered while trying to recoup CIA information, revealed to be about people who worked for Western allies, and he is seemingly shot dead. When Nick reemerges, as Roxanne and Mike are securing the briefcase,he accuses Tom Brennan (Simmons) of being an informant and works with Juliet (Gouw) to unknowingly switch the trunks, double-crossing The Union. However, before he can sell the intelligence, Roxanne interferes and, following a lengthy chase and unsuccessful attempt at swaying his ex-wife, he is killed.
What That Ending Means For The Union
There May Be More Adventures For Mike & Roxanne
The Union’s endingsuggests that Mike and Roxanne will go on more adventures together,as the former becomes part of the organization.While taking out Nick limits a potentially major threat with connections to The Union, not every player involved with the auctioning of CIA information was handled. When Juliet abandoned Nick, it was teased that she and Roxanne would see each other in the future, and there are likely more dangerous groups or assailants The Union will face, should a sequel happen.
The Union 2hasn’t been confirmed, and poor reception from critics and audiences may spell uncertainty.
The final moments ofThe Unionalso reveal that Mike and Roxanne have mended their romantic relationship. The death of Nick proved how seriously Roxanne takes her job and how removed she was from their marriage, so it could be interesting to see her and Mike evolve as a couple after that conclusion.
