Today’s Connections Category Hints
SEPTEMBER 17 #463
The words in today’s puzzle can be a little confusing because many of them are disconnected from each other. But that is the purpose of the puzzle, to find the way these seemingly random words are connected. To help you do so, we have four hints about what you might want to consider for this puzzle.
8 NYT Spelling Bee Strategies To Keep Your Streak Alive
The Spelling Bee puzzles created as a New York Times game build a streak of correct answers to get you more points, but they can be hard to keep.
If you want more of a hint for things to look for, you’re able to see all of the category names listed below:

HYPE
PSYCH
This one felt like the easiest to guess today, which is not always true. PUMP is the only other word in the puzzle that I thought might belong here as aword that means getting excited, but that was ruled out as it does not make as much sense as any of the others. PSYCH has various meanings that could change its placement here, but it does belong in this case.
PUMP
SLIDE
I used to wear FLATs all the time until one nearly ruined my ankle, but MULE was a new one for me. Upon looking them up, I am not surprised I had never heard the name before as I likely would never wear them, but it’s always nice to learn something new.
SLIDE and PUMP are both a little tricky here just because they have so many different definitions that if you do not knowabout the shoe theme- which I didn’t - you might have a hard time connecting them.

Wordle History: Today’s Answer & All Past Words
Wordle is a simple daily word game that has taken the internet by storm. With only 6 chances to get the right answer, players may need a little help.
SPEAKER
WHIP
This one looks easier at first glance because three of the words, CHAIR, LEADER, and SPEAKER, all have a similar leader-esque meaning without being related to a political role specifically. Connecting WHIP to those words, however, will force you to make the political connection as alegislative role for all of these words. This will make it a little harder, but with luck, you can pull those fun facts from your history class ten years ago to get the puzzle right.
MIC
PEAT
Recognizing these mightrequire you to say them out loudto hear their similarity to real-world names. However, connecting that before you have figured out the other categories might be difficult without knowing what you are looking for.
That is why we share the category names first so that you’re able to figure out what words belong where with some crucial information. Personally, though, it would be funny to spell Matt with that extra e.
