Today’s Connections Category Hints

SEPTEMBER 29 #475

While today’s puzzle has fewer challenges than the last couple of days, some potential pitfalls can grab a player’s attention. There are alsosome words that people may not be familiar with, so it’s key to try to focus on words you know. If unsure, you can check these four clues to see where you might be stuck:

5 Letter Words Wordle Hasn’t Used Yet (Updated Daily)

Wordle, the popular word-guessing game hosted by The New York Times, has over 1,700 words remaining as possible solutions.

If you still need a bit of extra help, we can give you some more clues in the form of the category names, which will surely help boost your chances of victory.

The words

UPHOLD

KEEP

Today, I thought thatKEEP and UPHOLD were fairly good tip-offs for this category. Adding FULFILL and HONOR to this category did not feel very difficult, but it was also not the first category I solved. I thought the words did a fairly good job of hiding among the others, particularly when I had not solved any of the categories yet. That being said, this one felt pretty straightforward after that, but I could see words like JUSTICE potentially throwing a wrench into the mix.

SHEET

SHAM

These words feel trickier when I look at them, but they were actually the first category I solved. Maybe it’s my obsession with blankets, but I saw BLANKET and SHEET and thought there might be something there. Looking around, SHAM, which is not a very commonly used word, could also be a kind of bedding, and I have so many THROW blankets, but it’s not even funny. This made it a little easier to figure that category out, although I might not have if I wasn’t familiar with this use of sham.

NYT Mini Crossword: 8 Strategies To Solve It Fast

This tricky little five by five crossword isn’t always as easy as it looks; here are a couple easy tips and tricks to beat your friends' times!

PASS

PLAY

This category was a bit easier due to my obsession with card games, and perhaps my family just playedUNO.UNOis a game that has all of these exact actions, except that you cannot really PASS. However, it is a well-known card game mechanic, especially in something likeLorcana. My growing shelves full of card games helped me out here, and I was glad to solve this one faster than I have in a while, although this is mostly due to this being a category about card games rather than sports.

LABOR

STATE

To be perfectly honest, these were all just words I hadn’t even looked at for most of my puzzle time with this game today. I am not sure I would have gotten this category if it was not last, although I am aware enough of the structure of a country’s politics to think about it eventually.ENERGY is perhaps the odd one out here, as the other three are slightly more prominentin the news and culture, but I am glad I mostly ignored these words until the end.

Other Games Like Connections

For today’s puzzle recommendation, I would tryAbsurdle, which makes more sense than the name suggests. It is quite wild when you first start, but after a few rounds, it becomes a lot of ridiculous fun.
