Today’s Connections Category Hints
AUGUST 23 #438
We have a few hints for you if you want to figure out the categories with minimal spoilers:
If you still want to know the categories, you can check out the box below where we have each name of today’s categories:

SCREEN
TERMINAL
The one word in this group that felt tricky at first was TERMINAL. DISPLAY, MONITOR, and SCREEN definitely caught my eye immediately, but TERMINAL felt more like a place - like at the airport, than something to do with the visual interface.
However, it did occur to me that TERMINAL does have another meaning, albeit more obscure, but it was lucky I gave it a go as otherwise I might not have gotten this one.

FAN
GLOVES
This one was mostly tricky because it did not include the word TIE. It felt like it should go here, although when the specific category was revealed it made a lot more sense. Ties were not part ofthe same Burlesque fashion that all of these items belong to. The BOA and CORSET are likely what give it away the most, but GLOVES were also fairly easy to spot. I did guess TIE at first, but upon losing that answer I figured out it had to be the FAN.
12 Letter Boxed Strategies To Win Quickly
The Letter Boxed game for the New York Times mobile app asks you to connect letters to form words while using various strategies to win quickly.
FAWN
TAN
The inclusion of TAN here through me off a bit. At first, I was convinced it was more about “FAWN” and “BASK” and other words meant to mean soaking in something. However, there was not a good fourth word to use that would mean anything close to the same thing, so I had to start re-evaluating.
Eventually, I figured out that it must have to do with thecolor or the idea of tanning, but at least I got in the general vicinity of what the category was in the end.

FINISH
TIE
This one admittedly through me off even after I knew the answers. These are all technically homophones, but not of each other, and that makes it quite difficult to connect them before you know.
Particularly since theyare all words that sound like the names of languages, if you did not read the words out loud it would be hard to put this one together ahead of time. TIE and FINISH probably make the most sense to the average person, but the other two are going to be harder to figure out as well.
