When it comes to animation, PG is often a sweet spot in terms of box office. AsDespicable Me 4andInside Out 2have just reinforced with their impressive theatrical performances, these types of animated movies attract family audiences to theaters. Something likeThe Super Mario Bros. Movie, too, shows the power of making a family-friendly animated adventure. If any of these animated movies had been PG-13, this would have limited their potential audience.
2023’sTransformers: Rise of the Beastsunderwhelmed at the box office, andTransformers Onenow has an opportunity to prove that interest remains in the franchise by tapping into an entirely new audience. It’s likely, for example, that youngsters who are not familiar with the franchise will go to Cooley’s film just because it features colorful animation and giant talking robots.
