Megatron has made his triumphant return inTransformers, but the Energon Universe is just getting started with his story.Transformers#19 will put the spotlight on the true leader of the Decepticons, and if the newly released preview is any indication, fans are in for a bold reimagining of Megatron’s origins within the shared Energon Universe continuity.
Skybound recently shared the preview on Instagram, offering a glimpse intoTransformers#19, crafted by the creative team of Daniel Warren Johnson, Ludo Lullabi, Mike Spicer, and Rus Wooton. The issue opens with a flashback to Cybertron’s war for freedom, whereMegatron has been captured by the Quintessons.

Forced to undergo a sham trial in a kangaroo court similar to the one seen inTransformers: The Movie(1986), Megatron’s fate remains unclear. However,Daniel Warren Johnson’s cover teases an intense showdown, depicting him locked in battle with the deadly Sharkticons.
Megatron’s Missing Years Finally Revealed
Transformers#19 Fills in the Gaps & Rewrites His Origin
Megatron recently reappeared to take control of the Decepticons once more at the end ofTransformers#18, after literal years of build-up. While fans have gotten hints as to what the Decepticon leader has been up to since being shot off of the Ark by Starscream before it crash-landed on Earth, there aremany gaps to fill in for what has happened to Megatron in the centuries since. Fans do know that Megatron will eventually be captured by the hidden society of Cobra-La, where he was subjected to torture and experimentationby none other than Cobra Commander.

In addition to filling in some gaps for Megatron’s“missing years,”the preview forTransformers#19 suggests fans will also be treated to Megatron’s origins on Cybertron. Traditionally, Megatron was an ally of Optimus Prime during their war for freedom from the Quintessons (seen most recently in last year’sTransformers One), so it will beinteresting to see how much of that origin is retained in the Energon Universe continuity. Skybound has already revealed someintriguing twists on Cybertron’s originsover inVoid Rivals, expanding the classic lore in new and exciting ways.
Megatron’s Return Spells Trouble for Optimus Prime
Reworked Origins and Guest Artists inTransformers#19
The creative team has already shown themselves capable of reworking the classic origins of characters, such asStarscream’s tragic beginningsas portrayed inTransformers#13-14. Similar to how that story featured guest art by Jason Howard,Transformers#19 also has a guest artist—Ludo Lullabi. Based on the preview, Lullabi seems to be an excellent fit alongside regular artist Jorge Corona, who is preparing for the final arc of writer Daniel Warren Johnson’s run. With an epic confrontation betweenMegatronandOptimus Primeon the horizon inTransformer’sEnergon Universe, now is the perfect time to dive into Megatron’s origins.
