InTransformers#11, Optimus Prime and the Autobots mount a rescue of thecaptive Jazz & Cliffjumper from Shockwave. Even though they manage to free their comrades, Arcee gives in to her rage, wanting to kill Shockwave for what he’s done to Ultra Magnus. Prime steps in and attempts to talk her down, saying, “remember how far you’ve come,“adding, “don’t lose yourself to this path again,” in a strong hint that Arcee has a darker past than perhaps fans were expecting, as Arcee’s deadliness on the battlefield has always been tempered by her compassion.
“Ferocity without compassion is brutality,” Arcee is quoted as saying in theTransformers’Earthriseseries, something herEnergon Universe counterparthas seemingly forgotten. It’s a darker take, but one that is certainly all the more compelling.
