Spy x Familyis undeniably one of the biggest manga under theShonen Jumplabel in recent years. With its combination of comedy, action, and drama both heartfelt and gripping, the series was quick to become a worldwide sensation with fans and critics alike, including myself, and five years later, few people haven’t at least heard ofSpy x Familyand how good it’s supposed to be.

Spy x Familyhas been a great series from day one, and it pairs well with anotherShonen Jumpmanga, You Chiba’sKindergarten Wars.Kindergarten Warsis another manga centered around spies, assassins, and gun-based action balanced out by great comedy and romance, so in many ways,Kindergarten Warscan be seen as the ultimate successor toSpy x Familythanks to their similar themes and aesthetics. That idea has madeKindergarten Warseven more fun to read over the years, and there’s reason to thinkKindergarten Warswill followSpy x Family’s footsteps in another big way.

Kindergarten Wars Is Getting An Anime According To Notable Anime Leaker

A Kindergarten Wars Anime Is Finally In Development

Kindergarten Warshas found plenty of success as just a manga in and out of Japan, and it’s set to become even bigger.According to notable anime leaker Sugoi LITE onX,Kindergarten Warsofficially has an anime in development; Sugoi LITE has been accurate with their leaks numerous times in the past, so if they’re saying thatKindergarten Warsis getting an anime, then there’s little reason to think that it won’t.

As for when an official announcement can be expected, that’s fairly easy to guess. WhileKindergarten Warswas notably absent from Jump Festa 2025,Shonen Jump+, the appKindergarten Warsruns on in Japan, is holding an art exhibit for their most popular manga in the spring to celebrate its 10th anniversary, andKindergarten Warsis among the manga to be featured. An art exhibit is structured differently from something like Jump Festa, but with the recent leaks in mind, the upcomingShonen Jump+art exhibitcould be used to formally announce theKindergarten Warsanime.

Kindergarten Wars’ Action Could Make It The Next Big Thing

Why Kindergarten Wars' Action Is So Good

IfKindergarten Warsis getting an anime, then its action could do a lot to help it take off worldwide. Befitting how its story revolves primarily around gun-based action, the fight scenes inKindergarten Warsalways have a lot of energy to them as the characters try to kill each other, especially when things end up devolving into hand-to-hand combat.Kindergarten Wars’ gun-based combat has made every fight scene great to read from day one, and if it’s given a competent anime adaptation, then those fight scenes could become outright gorgeous.

More than that, however, is the creativity of the fight scenes. Much likeSpy x Familyand, to a similar extent,Sakamoto Days,Kindergarten Warshas a habit of making characters fight with absurd fighting styles like goldfish scoopers, using a baseball bat to launch grenades, and even Roombas, and it’s always fun to see how dangerous those fighting styles can be and how often the series manages to top itself in absurdity.Kindergarten Wars’ fight scenes are great largely because of how creative they tend to get, and seeing that in animation would be nothing but a treat for the eyes.

Kindergarten Wars’ Writing Has Made It One Of My Favorite Manga, & An Anime Would Make It Even Better

Why Kindergarten Wars Is One Of My Favorite Manga Right Now

The biggest selling point ofKindergarten Wars, of course, has been its writing. The series is primarily an action comedy, and sure enough,Kindergarten Warsalways excels with its comedy through dialogue and visual gags, especially when they’re used to build up the absurd punchlines that are often used to cap off chapters. Nearly every chapter finds a new way to draw out as many laughs as possible, and if theKindergarten Warsanime finds a way to take that even further, that would be great.

On the opposite end of that spectrum is how wellKindergarten Warsexcels at drama. With a story centered around former criminals fighting for a second chance at a good life, there’s plenty of drama to be found in everyone’s character arcs the more they unfold, and with how well You Chiba executes drama whenever it comes about,Kindergarten Warshas some of the best handling of dramatic storytelling of any manga currently running under theShonen Jumplabel. A good anime could help sell that even further, and overall, that would be great to see.

Both of those factors come together to help sell the biggest hallmark ofKindergarten Wars’ writing: its romance. Much of the plot revolves around characters both wanting to find love and figure out if they’re deserving of love, and when that’s met with the typical aesthetic of the series,Kindergarten Wars’ romance writing always works because of how effortlessly it uses dramatic tension and absurdist comedy to build into every development and payoff. That sort of writing makes every romantic arc great to watch play out, and the right anime adaptation could do wonders to make that even better.

Everything aboutKindergarten Wars’ writing has made it one of my favorite manga to read in the past few years. Stories of any genre and medium often struggle with romance, comedy, and drama, whether it’s balancing them or just trying to make a single element fun to watch play out, yet somehow,Kindergarten Warshas found a perfect way of balancing so many different writing elements to create a narrative that satisfies every single one. There are few manga that I have more fun reading thanKindergarten Wars, and an anime adaptation couldn’t come any sooner.

Will Kindergarten Wars’ Anime Make It The Next Spy X Family?

How Good Are Kindergarten Wars' Chances Of Success?

Kindergarten Warsgetting an anime creates another parallel between it andSpy x Family, but that doesn’t mean it will be as big. As popular and well-received asKindergarten Warsmay be, it’s not to the same extent asSpy x Family, which was a massive hit from day one, soKindergarten Warscould only become as big astheSpy x Familyanimeif its anime adaptation is of similar high quality, if not higher.

That being said, as similar as the two stories might be, they both have largely differing appeals that have helped them find success in different ways, soKindergarten Wars’ success as an anime won’t, and probably shouldn’t, be contingent on how well it compares toSpy x Family. As a fan of bothKindergarten WarsandSpy x Family, nothing would make me happier than to see both of them be successful, and with any luck, the rumoredKindergarten Warsanime will accomplish just that.

Spy X Family

“Spy × Family” is a popular Japanese manga and anime franchise that blends action, comedy, and spy elements. The story follows Twilight, a secret agent tasked with creating a fake family to carry out a mission, unaware that his “wife” is an assassin and his adopted “daughter” is a telepath.
