FBI: Internationalreturned to CBS on Tuesday, January 28 with its long-awaited winter premiere. Season 4, episode 9, titled “The Kill Floor,” picks up directly after Vo is shot by a member of Csonka’s team and rushed to the hospital. She spends the installmentin critical condition, further motivating Wes to take down his rival once and for all. However, Vo isn’t the only agent whose life hangs in the balance. Raines is taken hostage by Csonka and used as a bargaining chip to exploit the FBI.
Although there are several near-tragedies,the Fly Teammakes it through the episode unscathed. Raines escapes, Vo pulls through after surgery, and Wesley shoots Csonka, officially putting an end to the criminal’s reign of terror. Star Vinessa Vidotto, who plays Special Agent Cameron Vo, admits she was unaware of her character’s fate when she first received the script for the fall finale. Despite the uncertainty, Vidotto withheld from reading the winter premiere, as she wanted to experience the events in real-time alongside fans.

“I was shocked. They didn’t tell me and I didn’t ask them, which I probably should have.”
When you got the script for the fall finale, were you told that Vo was going to survive?
Vinessa Vidotto: No, I was shocked. They didn’t tell me and I didn’t ask them, which I probably should have. [Laughs] Sometimes I ask the writers when they come out here for their episode for a week or so, I’m like, “Okay, so what are you guys doing next?” And then sometimes I don’t, and when I miss that gap, things like this happen.
Did you get the next script immediately after?
Vinessa Vidotto: Yes, and I haven’t read it for reasons where I want to experience it as an audience member because I experienced something similar in Episode 8 when I do get shot and my team is outside of the hospital when I’ve been rolled in, and I didn’t know their reaction. I didn’t go watch playback. I didn’t know what they were doing.
So when it came out, and I saw that it affected me, I was genuinely hit, especially by Wes' reaction. I was like, “Ooh, I like this.” And I was like, “Okay, so I’m not in 9. Let me not read it.” I want to see it from a different perspective because I was affected differently when I didn’t watch their performance on the day. I think maybe somebody told me that I would be okay or something. All is well. I am alive.
With that being said, were there any talks of you showing up at the end of the winter premiere?
Vinessa Vidotto: No, that was a surprise. I didn’t ask. I didn’t know until I read the script. There was no talk.
Cam May Have Pushed Csonka Too Far In FBI: International Season 4
Do you think Csonka targeted Cam specifically or was he just trying to go after anyone on Wes’ team?
Vinessa Vidotto: That’s an interesting question. Oh, I love this question. It’s making me think. In that interrogation, I think I pushed him too far. If you push a bear in a corner, they’re going to threaten you. They’re going to do something. I think with my tactics, he had to push back, and I put a target on my own back.
But also, I’m thinking that he wants to get back at Wes with anybody who is close to him. You had the trial go down, and Booth was brought on the stand. Mike Brooks was killed, and Wes had trained me at West Point back in the day. It could be either or. Either I could have provoked him, or Csonka’s really smart and likes to hit close to home.
How do you think Csonka going after Cam affected Wes differently than if it had been someone else on the team?
Vinessa Vidotto: Yeah, I think anybody on the team, it would hit pretty hard. Maybe the difference is it’s somebody that you trained and was hoping that they would have a long career and make it through that career without losing their life. That might’ve probably affected him very differently.
When you have a bond and a relationship with somebody, especially if you’ve trained them to become the best to avoid these situations and something like that has happened, he maybe takes some of that blame on himself, but who knows? I don’t want to speak for him. [Laughs]
Vo Feels A Responsibility To Look Out For The Fly Team, Says Vidotto
“It’s cool to see a strong woman stand her ground and question when things are a little suspicious.”
So much of that history has been teased. We know that Wes was tough on her, but were you told any specifics about their time training together or have you been filling in the blanks for yourself?
Vinessa Vidotto: No, I haven’t had any details yet. Just aside from the general that he was my training agent and yeah, we bumped heads, but we’re okay now, but no in-depth backstory.
Since they initially bumped heads, what changed? Do you think it’s because Vo has become a fully-fledged agent and learned what he was trying to teach her?
Vinessa Vidotto: Yeah, it could just also be different communication styles and age difference in terms of maybe people who train at West Point or come into these positions who are smart and capable and maybe have some anger to let out. [Laughs] I think it’s just communication style, personality, man versus woman. Vo can be a smart aleck, and she has her own opinions and can stand her ground even if they’re wrong, but at least she has a personality. That’s what I like.
What are Cam’s thoughts on Booth and his temporary spot on the team? She’s been filled in about his history with Wes.
Vinessa Vidotto: Yeah, definitely having to accept and trust Wes' decision. There has to be respect there. But also, look, Wes is new to the Fly Team, so this is Vo’s team in a way. She’s been there from the beginning and worked her way up, and I feel like she has a sense of responsibility and duty to look out for the team as well, even though she’s not the leader, but she’s learned a lot.
It’s cool to see a strong woman stand her ground and question when things are a little suspicious. And I also love seeing two strong, capable, smart people disagree or call each other out. I think that adds for great drama, but it’s also just real. You can’t just nod your head and agree to everything from one leader.
You have to have questions and your own thoughts and things. What I think she’s trying to do this season is understand Wes more. She’s trying to suss out why Booth does things the way he does or their history, but I don’t think she’s trying to aggravate him or poke. She just wants to ensure the best route for everybody.
Vidotto Weighs In On A Potential Cam & Wes Romance In FBI: International
“That would be interesting. Anything is possible with co-workers and whatnot.”
Wes and Cam did match on a dating app, and fans have been picking up on their chemistry. He’s her superior, but is a romance between them something you think is possible or would want to happen?
Vinessa Vidotto: I don’t know. TV is TV and writers have their crazy, bold, big ideas. [Laughs] Which is amazing and what makes the show. But I don’t know. That would be interesting. Anything is possible with co-workers and whatnot. Yeah, he was my training agent, but I think maybe just more of a friendship vibe. But who knows?
Since Cam survives, is there anything you can tease about what’s next for her, both physically and mentally, after going through something this intense?
You have to be able to handle that and move on. And I think after seeing Kellett get shot in season 1, Smitty in season 2, and Raines almost dying in season 3—I think when you go through these experiences, and you see your fellow colleagues almost die, but come out on the other side very strong, you go, “Okay, that’s how I handle it.” Can’t dwell on it.
Is there another episode this season you’re looking forward to in terms of Cam’s storyline?
Vinessa Vidotto: We haven’t filmed one yet that’s heavy on Cam. Maybe she needs a break. [Laughs] Maybe she’s dealing with the mental blowback from getting shot. So I don’t think anytime soon.
