The mobile trading card game,Harry Potter: Magic Awakenedis expected to be shut down in most parts of the world on August 17, 2025, but some passionate fans are hoping that it isn’t too late to save it.Harry Potter:Magic Awakenedhas already been removed from the App Store and Google Play, despite only having launched in North America and Europe a little over a year ago. Portkey Games announced their decision on June 30, 2025, the same day the game was removed from the mobile market.
Harry Potter: Magic Awakenedis a collectible card game mixed with RPG aspects that is set ten years following the events in theHarry Potterbooks. Despite receiving high reviews, with many praising its character designs andgroundbreaking gameplay mechanics, the game is facing shutdown whilea group of passionate players are making strides to stop the closure. Through an online petition started by Aethera Lawe onChange.org, players are hoping to convince NetEase Games to acquire the game and keep it alive.
Why The Game Is Shutting Down For Most Players
Will Still Playable In China And Taiwan
In theofficial news releasefrom theHarry Potter: Magic Awakenedteam, no real explanation was given for the shutdown of the servers. Potentially it was a lack ofmaking enough moneyto remain profitable, but this has not been confirmed.
The Harry Potter: Magic Awakened Team: “The time has come for Harry Potter: Magic Awakened to officially close its servers in the Americas, Europe, and Oceania territories on August 21, 2025. The game will continue to be available for players in Asia, including Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan, as well as other select Asia and MENA territories.”
What eagle-eyed players behind the petition noticed, however, is thatthe servers that are remaining open are all ones that are being managed by NetEase Games rather than Warner Bros. Games. Therefore, the petition being raised is focused on requesting NetEase Games to take control of all servers forHarry Potter: Magic Awakenedworldwide, rather than simply asking for the game to continue as it currently is.
Our Take: Can Fans Save Harry Potter: Magic Awakened?
Will A Petition Help?
As NetEase Games is not shutting down their servers forHarry Potter: Magic Awakened, there is a chance that this petition could convince the company to acquire control of the game worldwide. As of the time of writing, the petition has received 56 new signatures today for a total of 5,235 signatures. The next goal for the petition is currently focused on getting to 7,500. As the closure date for the game looms closer, many signatures are continuing to come in as both longtime fans of the game and prospective players who are only hearing about it through the potential shutdown are becoming interested in it.
Even if the goal is met, with many thousands of signatures behind the petition, there is still no guarantee that NetEase Games will pick up the mantle and save the game from shutdown. Currently, there has been no announcement from NetEase Games reflecting their thoughts on the matter. At present, any WB Portkey Games servers ofHarry Potter: Magic Awakenedare only playable by those who already have the game, and even that will end on August 12, 2025, unless this petition pays off.
