Wolverine’s claws are arguably his greatest defining feature, as the sight of him wielding those gnarly natural weapons is utterly iconic - and that’s not unique to Logan alone. Every member of Wolverine’s “Snikt Family” has their own set of claws that are just as badass as the original’s. However, even something as iconic as Wolverine’s claws could always use an upgrade, no matter who wields them. And, in this case, Marvel gifted fans thehigh-tech Wolverine clawsof their dreams.
InDaken: Dark Wolverine#4 by Daniel Way, Marjorie Liu, and Giuseppe Camuncoli, Wolverine’s son, Akihiro aka Daken, goes to the Fantastic Four for help after he’s seemingly killed by his demon-possessed father. The world thinks Daken is dead, and since he’s only made a name for himself as a villain in the Marvel Universe, Akihiro wants to take this opportunity to change that.

Daken wants to become an anonymous hero before revealing his identity to the world, hoping that he’ll be accepted as a hero once people see how much good he’s done. So, he asks Reed Richards to create a new weapon for him to use while he’s staying incognito, as his natural claws are too identifiable - and Reed has just the thing. Mr. Fantastic invents a pair of high-tech gauntlets that generate energy claws. And the best part? These claws are incapable of killing people, though they do have the power to stun/incapacitate anyone they touch.
Daken’s Non-Lethal Wolverine Claws are Perfect for Classic X-Men Adventures
Wolverine’s Claws are Too Deadly, Forcing Him to Hold Back During Missions
While fairly short-lived in Marvel Comics, these energy claws are perfect for not just Daken, but every member of Wolverine’s “Snikt Family”, and the reason why comes down to one crucial detail: they’re non-lethal. The likes of Logan, Laura, and even Akihiro himself have all beenmembers of the X-Men, which famously includes teenagers who are sent on missions to secure peaceful relations between humans and mutants. In other words, the “Snikt Family” are and have always been too deadly while representing the X-Men.
Sure, there are times when that deadliness comes in handy, but the sight of blade-wielding powerhouses slaughtering villains left and right is not a good look for a team of heroes - especially teenage heroes. That means Wolverine has always had to hold back on missions, making him less effective than he could have been if he was allowed to go all-out. These energy-claws are a perfect remedy for that, as they allow anyWolverine to go berserk on their enemieswithout killing them, ensuring the X-Men’s victory while mitigating loss of life every time.

Marvel Should Bring These Wolverine Claws to the Ultimate Universe
Energy Claws Would Be Perfect for the Ultimate Universe’s Akihiro
Akihiro has just been introduced in the Ultimate Universe, and this version of the character doesn’t seem to have his iconic claws. It’s implied thatUltimate Akihiro has fingernail claws akin to Sabretooth, but even that detail isn’t confirmed. As Akihiro develops further in the Ultimate Universe, he should definitely receive these energy claws to make up for his lack of natural ones. Plus, if Ultimate Akihiro becomes a hero like his Earth-616 counterpart, then Ultimate Reed Richards (aka Doom) could make him these claws just as his variant did originally, staying true to their Marvel legacy.
Ultimate Wolverine’s First Villain Flips the Hero’s Entire Role in the Marvel Universe
Marvel Comics' Ultimate Universe is flipping Wolverine’s heroic role as an X-Men member, making him fight the very thing he stood for in Earth-616.
These high-tech, non-lethal energy claws truly were a gift from Marvel to not only fans, but to every version of Wolverine across the multiverse. Claws that allow Wolverine to go all-out during battle, incapacitating everyone he slashes without killing them, is a perfect upgrade that would actually make the X-Men more effective as a team. It’s a shameWolverine’s energy claws didn’t last very long, but now is the perfect time for Marvel to bring them back - in both the main and Ultimate Universe continuities.

Wolverine
The human mutant Wolverine (a.k.a. Logan) was born James Howlett, blessed with a superhuman healing factor, senses, and physiology. Subjecting himself to experimentation to augment his skeleton and claws with adamantium, Logan is as deadly as he is reckless, impulsive, and short-tempered. Making him the X-Men’s wildest and deadliest member, and one of Marvel Comics' biggest stars. He’s played in Fox and Marvel’s movie franchises by Hugh Jackman.
