Warning! Spoilers ahead for Absolute Wonder Woman #6!No, DC Comics isn’t playing around with its new Absolute Universe and nothing says that better than the origin behindAbsolute Wonder Woman’ssidekick. DC’s newest Wonder Woman has brought a levity to the Absolute Universe and has been a true light in the darkness. But the story behindAbsolute Wonder Woman’s Pegasusshows just how twisted this world truly is.

InAbsolute Wonder Woman #6by Kelly Thompson and Mattia De Iulis, Diana has been called to the Underworld and stands before Hades. He asks her about her weapons, particularlyAbsolute Wonder Woman’s Nemesis Lassoand where it came from.

Prometheus Tells Absolute Wonder Woman Pegasus' Backstory DC

Diana reveals that she temporarily freed the Titan Prometheus from his imprisonment in exchange for his blood. Prometheus was so grateful for the kindness that he not only gave Diana his blood, but also a second gift. The Titan revived Pegasus, previously slaughtered by Zeus, and gave the horse to Wonder Woman, noting Pegasus had been ‘radicialized by injustice’.

Absolute Wonder Woman’s Pegasus Was Revived by a Titan

Born of a Monster, Killed by a God, Pegasus Reflects the Absolute Universe’s Darkness

In the more brutal Absolute Universe formed by Darkseid, Wonder Woman was raised in Hell instead of Paradise Island. However, all the torments of the Underworld didn’t stop her from being the hero she was destined to be and Diana eventually left for the world of the living when it came under attack by the powerful Tetracide. As Wonder Woman and her allies fought back against the powerful beast, Diana would fly in battle on her winged horse Pegasus. Despite his frightening and undead appearance,he’s a real asset to Absolute Wonder Woman and incredibly loyal to his rider.

Fans have only been exposed to the Absolute Universe for the past couple of months, but it’s obvious at this point that the rot runs deep. When Darkseid’s energy settled in this world, it made everything worse. Granted, Zeus killing Pegasus isn’t far off from some of the awful things he’s done in the Prime DC Universe. But what happened to this majestic creature in the past is a solid indication of just how this world is down to its finest details. If something like thatcan happen to Absolute Wonder Woman’s horse, anything is possible in the Absolute Universe.

Pegasus Lives Again DC

Nothing is Off-Limits in the Absolute Universe

DC is Committing to the Brutality of Its New World

The Absolute Universe was designed to reflect Darkseid’s twisted ideals (namely adversity and torment). It stands to reason that Pegasus, such a noble beast, would not only have a monster’s lineage, but be betrayed by a god. This world is inherently harder for everyone compared to the DC Universe and that applies to almost everyone (save for the villains of the world, it seems). DC Comics is sticking to its principles as the Absolute Universe goes along, and it’s interesting to see how the rules of this new world affect everything, includingWonder Woman’snew sidekick.
