Dragon Ball Daima’s final battle is officially underway, as Goku has teamed up with both ally and enemy to take on the evil King Gomah. Throughout the iconic franchise’s newest anime adventure,Gomah has not been a very intimidating presence. His earliest appearances proved the king to be somewhat cowardly, operating from the shadows and using the Dragon Balls to turn Earth’s defenders into children, simply because he was too afraid to deal with them himself.

Now, withthe mysterious Third Eyeplanted firmly in his forehead, Gomah has powered up in a major way, and was shown to effortlessly overpower his opposition in the most recent episode #17, titled “Gomah”. His impressive fighting ability is not what has the series' fan base talking, however. Upon attaining the Third Eye, the ruler of the Demon Realm took on a terrifying, muscular appearance and grew several times his original size, prompting fans to point out his similarities toDragon Ball Super’s Jiren.

Gomah Borrows Jiren’s Appearance

Daima’s Main Villain Is Glaringly Reminiscent of Universe 11’s Jiren

In personality, Gomah couldn’t be further from the proud warrior Jiren was duringDragon Ball Super’s Tournament of Power. A sly, cunning, and corrupt king, Gomah has exhibited no shame for any of his actions throughoutDaima. But in terms of appearance, the two characters are shockingly similar. Most notably, Gomah and Jiren wear the exact same outfit, aside from extremely minor differences in the trim pattern on the torso. Their skin tone and eye shape are also incredibly similar, leaving only differences in their ears and Gomah’s horns.

After using the Third Eye and growing exponentially in size, both characters now have similar statures as well. Gomah is somewhat bulkier than Jiren was in his base form, but near identical to Jiren’s full-power form takenduring the fight with Ultra Instinct Goku. While their shared characteristics can be viewed as a simple call-back to the franchise’s most recent antagonist, there might be just be a reason the two characters are so similar.

Similarities Between Gomah and Jiren May Be More Than Just a Call-Back

Jiren Might Belong to a Race Native to the Demon Realm

Dragon Ball Daimahas established that Namekians are a race native to the Demon Realm, and they are not the only ones to have escaped it. Glinds, like Shin, have also ventured outside, and acted as Kais in other universes. It’s possible Gomah also belongs to a race of demons who have also settled on worlds outside the Demon Realm, and given their similarities, Jiren might also belong to that race. The incredibly powerful fighter never showed any signs of magic powers, though rewriting Jiren to have originally been a demon is a retcon that would work well.
